Fifth Wheel

How far can it really take you
That armored truck
That song playing in your head
Barreling through rivers
Through the darkest places in yourself
Accelerated by the diesel in your heart
White knuckle grip on the wheel
A loud cry escaping your lips
Mountains scrambling by
As if by sheer force of your will
You can change them
Move them
Make them disappear forever
To lose sight for a moment
On the roughest terrain
Trust in circumstance and intuition
Because you have a CTIS
And it works
You know
You checked it before you left
But the road will never yield to you
It was formed too long ago
The load you’re carrying is too heavy
And how far can you actually go anyway
When you’re frantically searching
For reverse
